Police reported they were notified by a man who discovered a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Roughly fifty cars have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.

Police say they were notified late on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Police report preliminary tests suggest the substance was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.

Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the mystery" and have requested to the public for information.

A high-ranking political figure commented the vandalism left him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
